When it makes you want to wear it every day.
It’s been probably a decade since I’ve worn a really pigmented lipstick. I hopped on the lipgloss bandwagon in the mid 2000s and dutifully painted a nude lip while playing up my eyes.
The trends have changed (I think), but I’m not much of a trend follower. Thankfully Nordstrom has built a full bar in its Bellevue store, which is a stone’s throw from the new Tom Ford counter. Who knew that after a well lubricated lunch is the perfect time to go make up shopping because you’ll try on colors you’d never think would look good on you, including this $52 Dark and Stormy lipstick?
I admittedly know very little about Tom Ford, his years as creative director at Gucci, or his new brand, but he has nailed cosmetic packaging and colors figured out, making me throw down another $80 for a quad of eye shadows (Nude Dip) in a palette that so far can do no wrong regardless of the order or color application.
I passed on the $60 blush, which was clearly a mistake. I thought I could make do with whatever I had in my makeup drawer, but subbing another brand and not completing the look makes me feel like I’m wearing a cheap Chinatown knock off. Maybe next month.
